We've been to this restaurant before and really enjoyed our experience. My wife had a baby shower there and we have been there several times since but that's likely to end. Our Father's Day dinner was vastly different and NOT pleasant.
Let me preface by saying the food and service are typically good. We arrived with a party of 7 (including my father in law with several health problems and our 16 minth old daughter). As soon as we were seated, we noticed the air conditioning wasn't working. No explanation was offered and no apology was made until we complained. We were told the A/C was out in the morning. I was and am STILL surprised no one from the restaurant called earlier in the day to warn us that our meals will be served as though we lived in the 1940s.
I ordered the Zuppa Di Pesce, which was very salty but otherwise decent. Perhaps the whole experience would have been different if the place was climate controlled. I don't think we will come here again.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Dominique D.Boonton, NJ487341396Nov 2, 2020
The food at Il Michelangelo is always stunning. It is so close to the food I've experienced in Italy. The service is always great. They have outdoor tables on their charming porch, which I appreciate.
I always love seeing what the specials are - they're creative and delicious. I love the pasta and fish specials. I've had the best orange roughy ever - in fact, none of their fish dishes have disappointed me. The pasta dishes are amazing - the flavor combinations are so good and the pastas are cooked perfectly.
They offer quite a few homemade desserts - they have a great tiramisu. The wine list is very good and quite reasonable. If you are looking for excellent Italian food in the area, look no further.Helpful 5Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0 - Lila K.Wayne, NJ15329Apr 25, 2021
I hardly ever leave negative reviews. But I just want to warn people: do not order pork rolattini here. It was simply bad. It was so tough I could barely cut it with a steak knife. Chef Ramsey would have a ball. Everything else was just okay. Overall service was good, especially the cheerful bartender.
The restaurant offers a free espresso for a Yelp check in. It took 3 uncomfortable conversations with 3 different waiters for them to finally accept it. Why offer if you do not intend to honor it? Especially considering that our party of six left $600 at that place.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Steve A.Boonton, NJ10525777Sep 18, 2020
I was here once prior to 3/2020, and have been twice since for outdoor dining, and I have to say this place is a hidden gem. I'd driven past it many times and didn't even notice, as it's built into a lovely historic home (the interior is beautiful too, btw), but actually found it by looking at a map haha.
Let me start by saying the food is some of the best Italian food I've had in NJ. Yes, that's a massive statement. Yes, they deserve it. All of the dishes I've tried have been top notch, bursting with flavor, but what you should be sure you do not miss is their pastas. I've tried 3 or 4 of them and they're all some of the best I've had, period. They also offer pasta dishes in "appetizer size", so you can have a pasta course for 2 after your appetizer and before your main course (despite the fact they're so good you won't want to share). The wine list is fairly priced and has quite a number of unique and interesting picks you won't find anywhere else, too. Dessert is just as wonderful as the rest, although I tend to stuff myself on other things and rarely last til then!
The waitstaff is all very gracious, and the service is quick and professional. There really isn't anything that's not 5 stars about this establishment.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Apr 29, 2021
The food here is great. Very authentic so if you're looking for a more Americanized dish I would say this probably isn't for you. The inside of this place is my favorite part; they did a phenomenal job decorating. It's a great place to look into for a large crowd or party too. There are always nice specials available and great portion sizes. Can't wait to come back in once things are back to normal!

Excellent family owned restaurant!! Upon entering we were greeted by the owner who had a great conversation with us and made us feel welcome.
Upon being seated, we were served some delicious bread with caponata. The caponata was by far the best I have ever had in a restaurant.
Our waiter came over and he was awesome. He was so patient with us as we asked a bunch of questions about the entrees. Throughout our meal he made sure to keep checking on is to see if we needed anything.
For dinner I have the pork rollatini. It was delicious. Served in a really nice mushroom sauce. All the flavors in the rollatini just worked wonders together. My husband had the chicken meatballs which were amazing. I would go back just for them!
After dinner, we ended up chatting with our waiter only to find out that he was the son of the owner. We wouldn't have known if he didn't tell us. He was great and really made our experience there a memorable one. He also mentioned that his brother was cooking.
I can't wait to go back here and try some other menu items. I think prices were on par with the quality of food and service.
My one and only reason for not giving it five stars is because of the noise level. There are no absorbing surfaces so any times, the level of chatter was slightly intrusive to our conversation. That said, I would not let it stop me from returning. The benefits far outweigh that.Helpful 5Thanks 0Love this 4Oh no 0 - Aug 10, 2020
Aug 1, 2020 - came here to meet friends and I have to say this restaurant gets it rIght. They took our temperature before we sat down at the table and everyone was wearing a mask. Outdoor dining only! We drove all the way from Westchester, NY because our friend said this was a safe place to meet since most of the tables are almost 6ft apart. The pasta was delicious I ordered the Tagliatelle Bolognese. The pasta was cooked to perfection and the meat sauce not salty. However, my friend ordered the Pork Rollatini that was very salty, and it hold her what does she expect there is Ham, and Soppressata rolled inside. For dessert we shared the Bomba that was delicious. The service was great, our waitress was wonderful. All and all, we will make it a point to come back here to eat.

My family has a new go to for Italian food in a smart casual but elegantly decorated former stone house. I called ahead checking if they were stroller friendly after a Morristown steakhouse acted like "how dare you bring a baby and stroller here". The person on the phone here said "how many strollers do you have? We'll make room".
The food was great from the delicious Fresh baratta cheese with house roasted peppers and just enough balsamic reduction to make you smile to the home made bread and the rice all bites to die for. Great pasta and fish dishes completed the main course. It was my wife's birthday and the owner (who spent time with us 3 times) made sure the waiters who sang knew her name and also gave us Tee shirts!
Thanks to Dominic and staff for a great meal!! We'll be back soon!Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - John B.Chestertown, MD107812Aug 23, 2019
I mean, really really good. We sat outside on the front porch. Sinatra playing over the speakers and delicious Italian food. Doesn't get much better.
The shrimp scampi was the best I've ever had. Asked for more bread just so I could dip it. I had a chicken special and the mrs had a pasta special with truffle cheese and truffle oil. They were both excellent.
The best part of this place is the owner walking up to each table after each course asking how it was and seeing if he could get you anything else. A nice man with a hell of a business.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Lynda F.Boonton Township, NJ046Jun 20, 2021
Made reservations for indoor dining but when we arrived we were told it was for outdoor instead. We were a little thrown off from that but that quickly changed. Once our bread basket and wine arrived, we switched up our mood & just embraced where we were. The rain had just stopped so it broke the humidity & we had such a nice breeze. We ordered Chianti, Mozzarella caprese, veal saltimbocco, and the Cavatappi 3P's. For dessert we had tiramisu and the pana cotta. What an absolutely delectable feast! The flavors were top notch from beginning to eat. The service was on point and never lagged. We will absolutely be returning to try out more items on the menu!
