Playa de Maspalomas: Together with Playa del Ingles, Playa de Maspalomas makes up Gran Canaria’s largest and most popular beach area with almost 4 miles of white sandy beach on the island’s southernmost tip. The beach is a continuation of the Duna de Maspalomas, a large, desertlike area. Rent a camel and pretend you are Lawrence of Arabia. The beach is divided into four areas for families, nudists and homosexuals respectively. This beach is popular and busy and has all the facilities you may wish for.
Playa del Ingles: Lies in continuation of Playa de Maspalomas. Playa del Ingles is particularly popular with English, German and Scandinavian tourists. On Playa del Ingles there is plenty of possibility for water skiing, jet skiing, windsurfing etc. On Paseo Maritimo, a kind of pedestrian street at the beach, you will find all sorts of restaurants, bars and little shops.
Playa de San Augustin: Not as famous as Maspalomas and Playa del Ingles and thus more quiet and more relaxing. Maybe this is why Playa de San Augustin is popular with the locals. The sand is a little darker here and as the beach lies in a cove, the waves are smaller. This is a good beach for snorkeling and diving.
Playa de Puerto Rico: A crescent of sand, brought over from Sahara lies on Gran Canaria's sunniest spot. This is a paradise for sun worshippers and drawn back from the beach, in a subtropical garden, also lies two pool-lidos. Puerto Rico is famous for its supply of water sports activities, both of the more active kind like water skiing and diving and of the more relaxing kind like for example dolphin safari.
Puerto de Mogán: The westernmost holiday resort on the south coast is a beautiful little fishing village with a marina and a well protected beach. This is one of the more expensive holiday resorts and the surroundings are exclusive and relaxing.
Playa de los Amadores: Only a 20 minutes’ walk from Playa de Puerto Rico lies Playa de los Amadores, ‘Lovers’ Beach’. The cove is well-protected from the sea with half a mile of golden sand and crystal clear water.
