The man convicted of attempting to kidnap then-House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and attacking her husband with a hammer has been sentenced to 30 years in prison. A federal judge handed down the sentenced for 44-year-old David DePape on Friday. Prosecutors had asked for a 40-year prison term. Jurors found DePape guilty last November of attempted kidnapping of a federal official and assault on the immediate family member of a federal official. DePape admitted during trial testimony that he broke into the Pelosis’ San Francisco home on Oct. 28, 2022, intending to hold Nancy Pelosi hostage. He also admitted to bludgeoning Paul Pelosi with a hammer after police showed up at the home.

The union lost by a vote of 2,642 to 2,045 in results released Friday by the National Labor Relations Board. The auto assembly plant and a battery factory are located in and near Vance, Alabama, not far from Tuscaloosa. Nearly 93% of workers at the plants voted in the election.

Canadian police say they have linked the deaths of four young women nearly 50 years ago to a now deceased U.S. fugitive who hid in Canada from the mid 1970s to the late 1990s. Alberta Royal Canadian Mounted Police Supt. Dave Hall says Gary Allen Srery might also be linked to unsolved murders and sexual assaults in Western Canada and are asking for the public's help in establishing a timeline. Srery died in 2011 in a state prison in Idaho of natural causes while serving a life sentence for sexual assault. Hall says Srery was identified through the use of DNA and criminal databases that helped trace his family tree.
