Revisiting my childhood by reading Tolstoy's War and Peace and Anna Karenina...then maybe I'll go back to reading House of Leaves or something completely different. I wouldn't mind reading something by Faulkner again or Flaubert and put my French skills to use. I fear it's becoming a little rusty...maybe I need to hire a French tutor to brush up before making an attempt.

I'm always wary of English translations, especially as a student of literature. I wonder if the translation is able to preserve the original intent and feel. That's why I try and read in the original language if I am confident enough in my ability to do so.

Kind of flipping through different books at the moment...got nothing new to read for now. So it's bits of The Belgariad and The Mallorean. They're not great but are easy reading at least.

Reading Frisk. I'd like to read The Sluts but the copy I might have borrowed I don't think my friend can find. Maybe I'll just buy it.

Just finished the first volume of The Flowers of Evil (Aku no Hana) by Shuzo Oshimi. To be honest, I bought it cuz I'm a Baudelaire freak and I thought it would be interesting to see that influence in a manga. I'm not really sure if I like it or not. The premise is interesting, but it feels like the writer is rushing through it. There's no in depth characterization, really (which makes it hard for me to really care about any of the characters), and there's...really been no build up of plot. I'm finding myself squirming in awkwardness just reading it and that awkwardness has nothing to do with how good the writer is at portraying the MC's plight. :/ Then again, this is manga where it sometimes takes forever to introduce a simple concept (no offence to any manga/comic writers on here) so I'm trying to stay reserved. If I have an extra $10, I might buy the next volume, but...I'm probably not going to go out of my way for it....

Also read half of the first chapter of Is This A Zombie? by Shinichi Kimura (mum talked me into buying it) and...despite that it's loaded with tropes and clichés and things that make me cringe (I think the main guy fought pedo bear away from a naked girl, seriously...), it's amusing the hell out of me. *pretending this is supposed to be comical manga cuz she honestly has no idea what it's supposed to be*

Planning on reading Lizzie Newton: Victorian Mysteries by Hey-jin Feon soon, as well. Sincerely hoping that it's good and that I don't get this Lizzie confused with Black Butler's Lizzie...though Ciel might not mind if the two Lizzies were one in the same.... *ponders*

Otherwise, just reading over writing notes. =)

Oh my god, I just finished that manga yesterday. Not only was it a trippy read at the beginning but it was almost frightening as well. All the sh*t that goes on and all the craziness that's put into play was definitely entertaining. The ending was a pretty good though. The only real character building I cared about was for Kasuga since SPOILER ALERT since he starts off as this kid who steals a popular girl's gym clothes, then is black mailed by a creepy girl, called a pervert, writes it all over the school, partially insane, and just goes off on to do bad things. If that wasn't bad enough, he got raped by that popular girl, disappointed his parents, and was almost about to kill himself with the crazy girl. But then we go into the future where he moves, meets a new girl, and tries to build a better life and so on. And from there things get interesting. I won't say the manga was a solid 10/10, but I will say it was a good 8/10 considering how the story really pulls you in despite how long it takes to develop the concept of it all.

OMG, I found a:

in this published piece of work. I can understand if it was a piece of fanfiction or something of the like, but this book...is...published...for millions to see. Maybe I got a bad copy?

"I'm sorry Vane. I swear didn't mean to get us killed like this."

I wonder if she typed her work in OpenOfiice, lol.

That aside, it's a really interesting book. I love any books concerning an author's viewpoint/opinion/spin on werewolves, vampires, etc.

Christopher Marlowe's Doctor Faustus. Only part of the way through, I've come to the ground breaking conclusion that Faust...is a d*ck. I mean, some of his points I totally agree with, but still. :/
I loved reading that; good themes and certainly relatable to today. If you like Marlowe, try The White Devil by Webster.

So far, what I've read I've really enjoyed...and I don't usually like reading plays. ._. *going to read Goethe's version when she's done* Oooh, thankies for the recommendation. ^^ I'll give it a looksee when I next go book shopping. ^^

Props! :D I don't own as many King books as I'd like to, but I do have this one, and it's my absolute favourite by him. ^^

Reading "Darkness Becomes Her". It's the second time, and I honestly can't remember whether I liked it the first time. Ever since Twilight, I've read with a far more critical eye...(no offense to anyone who likes the Twilight books...it kind of just gave me an idea of what I don't like in story-telling).

You should definitely try Salem's Lot. I read many of King's books, but it's probably my absolute favorite. Misery is amazing book too, but it can be little to hard.
