The Cartoon Art Museum is located at 781 Beach Street, San Francisco, on historic Fisherman’s Wharf, just steps away from Ghiradelli Square, Hyde Street Pier, and the Cable Car turnaround, with an impressive view of San Francisco Bay and the Golden Gate Bridge. San Francisco Museums For All

The Cartoon Art Museum is a proud participant in San Francisco Museums For All, a program that provides low-income residents with free or reduced admission to local museums and cultural centers.

  • Show your EBT or Medi-Cal card at the ticket window. Each SF MFA admission can include up to three family or friends at the same discount.

VISIT TIME

Most guests average between 30-90 minutes per visit.

PHOTOGRAPHY

Non-flash photography is allowed for personal, non-commercial use in the museum, except where noted. Flash photography and the use of professional camera equipment are not allowed in the museum. Material on exhibit is copyright protected; any reproduction of it will be prosecuted as permitted by all applicable laws.

CELL PHONES

For the enjoyment of all visitors, we request that you refrain from using your cell phone within the galleries.

STROLLERS

Smaller single-occupancy strollers are permitted in the galleries. Guests with strollers determined to be too large for the galleries may be asked not to enter the museum with them. Stroller parking accommodations are limited. We recommend leaving strollers in your vehicle if they might exceed the stroller size limit.

COAT CHECK

Due to COVID, coat check is currently unavailable. Umbrellas may be left at the front door in umbrella stands. For lost items, visit the front desk, email office@cartoonart.org or call 415-227-8666.

SECURITY AND PROHIBITED ITEMS

For the safety and security of the museum, all bags and parcels are subject to inspection. Prohibited items include but might not be limited to weapons, knives, box cutters, scissors, flammable liquids, permanent markers, and spray paint. No food or beverage is permitted in the galleries at any time, except bottled water.

LOST AND FOUND

The museum is not responsible for lost, stolen, or unattended items, and assumes no responsibility for accidents, loss, or personal injury. If you think you have lost an item at the museum, contact the front desk at 415-227-8666 or office@cartoonart.org.

 
 

Accessibility

 

WHEELCHAIR ACCESSIBILITY

The Cartoon Art Museum is accessible to wheelchair users. There is a wheelchair lift for visitors at the main building entrance, located to the left of the main entrance, on the other side of the museum’s front windows.

CLOSED CAPTION AVAILABILITY

Closed Caption and Open Caption accommodations are available in the galleries, and the museum offers on-demand closed captioning for some audio experiences as well. See the ticket desk for more information.

HEARING IMPAIRED ACCESSIBILITY

Please notify us one week in advance if you will be attending an event and would like to request an ASL interpreter. Whenever possible these services will be provided upon request of at least 1 week.

 
 

ADMISSION AND EVENT TICKET PURCHASE POLICIES

No refunds and no exchanges for admission or event tickets. (See Donate Program or Event Tickets section below.)

In some instances, the museum may impose limits on tickets available for purchase per household based on capacity of venue and/or special considerations for any ticketed program or event, including non-paid ticketed programs and events. The museum reserves the right to void tickets purchased in excess of this limit.

DONATE ADMISSION OR EVENT TICKET

If you have purchased tickets to an event and you are not able to attend, you can donate your tickets back to the museum for resale. You may donate your tickets until 72 hours before the program or event and receive a record of your tax-deductible contribution equivalent to the price. To donate your tickets back, please send an email to office@cartoonart.org indicating the confirmation number for the original purchase. You will be sent a donation receipt via email once your unused purchase has been accepted for donation back to the museum.

Note that the museum is not able to accept tickets for donation after 72 hours prior to the program or event. Workshop registration is not able to be returned as a donation at this time.

We cannot accept donations of tickets over the phone or in person.

REQUEST OF FREE PASS DONATION

The Cartoon Art Museum provides free passes for fundraising by schools and charitable organizations. Send your organization’s official donation request letter and a stamped return envelope to 781 Beach Street, San Francisco, CA 94109. Free passes will not be donated without a stamped return envelope.
