Justin Tuck says it's 'obvious' he may not return to Giants in 2014

Justin Tuck, in an interview with the New York Post on Thursday morning, said he will test the free-agent market this offseason.

"I will see what the market is for me," Tuck said during a Super Bowl promotional appearance. "I’ve never been in this situation before, and it’s a great opportunity for myself. I would be doing myself a disservice if I didn’t see what the market is, and I will."

That means Tuck won't re-sign with the Giants before free agency begins on March 11. Tuck told the Post he will meet with the Giants before then but said "there's no guarantee" he returns to the team.

"We will sit down in a couple of weeks and see what happens, but obviously, the Giants are going to do what’s best for the Giants, and vice versa with me and my family," Tuck told The Post. "I understand where they’re coming from and what obstacles they have to overcome this offseason. There’s no guarantee, and that’s obvious. It’s a business, and [I] understand both sides of it."

Tuck, coming off an 11-sack season, will be 31 next season.

"I’m a pretty good football player," Tuck said, "and I’m pretty sure there will be some interest in a pretty good football player."

Tuck now sounds much less certain to return than the player who said at the end of the 2013 season that he "would love to retire as a Giant."

So, add that to the long list of problems the Giants have to deal with this offseason.
