What we’re about
The primary focus of The Belgium Java User Group (founded in 1997 by Stephan Janssen) is to inform our members about the Java ecosystem.
We regularly organise free sessions for Java and JVM interested developers, devops and teamleads to socialize, learn and inspire.
Interested to contribute and participate in our vibrant and independent Java community here in Belgium? Reach out to the team! We are always looking for new speakers and Meetup Hosts.
For the April session of BeJUG we're heading to Woluwe! We will be joined by 2 amazing speakers: Sami Ekblad from Vaadin and Tom Cools from Info Support.
This time, you can find us at Haute école Léonard de Vinci (https://www.vinci.be/fr/formations-continues) in Woluwe. Many thanks to them for hosting us! Check them out at: https://www.vinci.be/en/campuses/campus-woluwe

Sami's Topic: You Can Build Web UI Using Java Only
In the fast-evolving landscape of web development, Java remains a cornerstone for robust backend systems. However, its potential in frontend development is often overshadowed by JavaScript-dominated frameworks. This session aims to shift this perspective by introducing Vaadin, a Java-based framework designed for building modern web user interfaces.
The session will commence with a brief introduction to Java's role in current web development scenarios, highlighting its stability, scalability, and security features. We will then pivot to an in-depth exploration of Vaadin, showcasing how this innovative framework leverages Java's strengths to create efficient, responsive, and visually appealing web UIs.
About Sami
Sami, a pioneering member of the Vaadin team since 2000, has been crafting web applications and developing reusable components for Vaadin and various other web frameworks. He focuses on creating robust and efficient web development solutions and continues to contribute to open source and the evolution of Vaadin.
Tom's Topic: Braving the Change: recalibrating to new realities
‘Change is the only constant in our industry’… but they never told us it would go this fast. With the recent evolutions in AI, ‘change’ has shifted from a ‘constant’ to something better described as ’exponential,’ sparking excitement for some and existential dread for others.
In this dynamic and insightful session, we’ll delve into the essential skills required to thrive in this rapidly evolving landscape. We’ll explore and discuss existing tools and frameworks that empower you to maintain momentum without losing control.
After leaving this session, you’ll be better prepared for whatever change might come on your path. And with preparation comes bravery.
About Tom
Developer without borders, both geographically and technically. Active as a consultant with a focus on Java technologies.
Next to that, Tom is a trainer and mentor who loves to share not only knowledge but also passion for our craft. Tom is a Java Champion, leader of the Belgian Java User Group and an alround geeky guy.
Additional note: This meetup includes food. We, therefore, ask you to please keep your RSVP status up to date, so we do not waste any of our food.
