Today's market

March 28, 2024 at 4:15 p.m. EDT

Michael P. Reinking, CFA
Sr. Market Strategist

Today is a day of optimism and closure and this applies not only to financial markets but also the world of sports. Today is Opening Day in Major League baseball which for many tortured fans will be the last time they will see their teams atop the standings. It is also the beginning of the Sweet 16 where the hopes and dreams of a magical championship run will continue or come to an end (for many of us broken brackets ended any optimism on this front last week). Within financial markets today is the final trading session of the month and Q1. March was another solid month with broad based participation. The S&P 500 is extending its monthly winning streak to 5 months closing up around 3%. This brings YTD gains to ~10% the best start to a year since 2019 and the second consecutive double digit quarterly gain.

The NYSE sent a crew to Madrona’s IA Summit in Seattle, where we had a chance to meet the leaders of exciting companies in AI and ask them to share questions and prompts on a variety of thought-provoking topics. But this isn't just another Q&A series, we took those answers and transformed them into art – using AI, of course.
