In honor of the recent publication of the English edition of The Ottoman Scientific Heritage by Ekmeleddin İhsanoğlu, translated by Maryam Patton (published by Al-Furqan Islamic Heritage Foundation), the Center for Middle Eastern Studies at Harvard University and the Al-Furqan Islamic Heritage Foundation are hosting a two-day symposium on April 26-27, 2024, at Harvard University.

We're happy to present the book "Ahmed Zaki Yamani: The Heritage of an Ummah in a Man” a tribute to the late Shaykh Ahmed Zaki Yamani. This commemorative volume serves as a heartfelt homage to his extraordinary life and enduring impact. Within its pages lie the profound insights shared during the symposium, "H.E. Sheikh Ahmed Zaki Yamani's Life and Ideas" Distinguished academics, revered scholars, and close associates convened alongside friends and family to honour & reflect upon his remarkable legacy.

This book is considered one of the most important Arab bibliographic sources. Its author proved extraordinarily adept at elegantly classifying Arab sciences by topic, based on the concept of gradually progressing from the general to the specific. He excelled in identifying and branching disciplines, identifying well over 320. The author introduced each science, defining its scope of specialty, outlining its principles, benefits and purposes, and indeed, going further to present the origin and historical evolution of many disciplines.

We are pleased to announce the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Al-Furqān Islamic Heritage Foundation (AIHF) and the International Journal for the History of the Exact and Natural Sciences in Islamic Societies (Suhayl), which is published by the University of Barcelona, Spain.
The MoU was signed on Monday 12 February 2024 and comes with the aim to broaden the cooperation between Al-Furqan and Suhayl.

The Centre for Study of Islamic Manuscripts organised a one-day symposium entitled "The Translation Movement between East and West" on Wed. 29 Nov. 2023. The topic of the symposium, which coincided with the 35th Anniversary of Al-Furqan, has chosen to highlight a theme that has long been close to the heart of our late Chairman, HE Sheikh Ahmed Zaki Yamani (may he rest in peace), namely, bridging cultures, especially East & West.

The Centre for the Study of Islamic Manuscripts at Al-Furqān Islamic Heritage Foundation, in co-operation with Staatsbibliothek zu Berlin - Preußischer Kulturbesitz, and Berlin-Brandenburgische Akademie der Wissenschaften (Corpus Coranicum), organised an international workshop / training course on "Qurʾān manuscripts, past and present: Cataloguing and digital tools".

To highlight each country's Islamic written heritage, we will be celebrating the National Days, by providing an insight into their Islamic manuscript collections.
Namely, on the occasion of the National Day of each particular country, we will publish an interactive summary of the country's surveyed Islamic manuscripts collection, with key facts and figures from the Foundation's published “World Survey of Islamic Manuscripts” (1994) , the only and unique survey to date.
