Here's one for you to ponder: The card is apparently an "International" one, and says the car is a "Side-Splitter". However, it appears to be a "Probe Funny Car" with a Bullet Bonneville Tampo. Date on the chassis is 1977, card date is 1996. Somebody goofed!

I found a this #072 in Rite Aid the other day. It is a police bus with the title on the blister of School Bus. The original package blue card was titled "BUS" no mention of school. Read Note G: below. Also the comment about this being common and not an error. Think what you want but here it is an error is an error.

treasurehunt goldpassion In 1995 I found a few (3) #2 treasure hunt passions in ferrari F40 packaging. I heard this was a common error.

Low and cool mini truck with no tampo's on the left side. 97 FE Mercedes C-Class with out tampo's on the left side. Here are pictures of each. I have a few more mistakes but these are the ones that I like.

Fire, Fire I have found a car that doesn't fit the package
description, as you can see that this police cruiser
isn't and the car belongs to a Fire Dept. Chief
I found this at a K-Mart in San Diego
County.
3/2/98 I found another car at Target

Here is an unedited comment about this car I received in the email:
Larry:
Hey, I was checking out some links and I got to your SNAFUBAR (nice combination) page from CB's via the TH Alley... and I have one item that I feel should be clarified...
The Fire Chief car in the Police Cruiser BP is not an error. This car has not been seen in any other package. The casting is called the Police Cruiser, and just because they put different tampo's on it doesn't change the name of the casting. It's the same casting as the original Police Cruiser in Black and White that came out in 1996, and that was used for the LAPD LE, and if you want another point, remember also that the green Heat Fleet car from 1997 was also called a "Police Cruiser"... this may be slack on Mattel's part in that they are using the same package art but nevertheless it is not an "error" in the traditional sense. You will also note that the "Prison Bus" is packaged in the "School Bus" package... same idea.
Just wanted to clear that up. Great site! Mark

Other finds but no pics yet:
A:  Other Fire Chief cars packaged in the Police car box have been sighted (we now have 2 of them 5/98)
B: Also a 97 First Edition #1 has been found with no tires on it.
C: Thomas(radar) Gilbert reports: I have found 2 other Hotwheel cars
- Is a 1996 FE #3 - 1970 DODGE CHARGER DAYTONA - the mistake is a block in the passenger window.
- One I found today 1998 #768 is supposed to be a LAMBORGHINI COUNTACH the one i picked up has a CLASSIC CADDY(PURPLE WITH A BLUE TOP).
D:  RHar22 reports a 98 F.E. ESCORT RALLY without the fin and its not in the package.
E: Hotwheelsmom S. Baker - My husband just got back from the store and he found something I thought was strange. It is the Corvette Convertible in the Tropicool Series and it is the right car, painted green with blue interior, and 3 spoke wheels. The thing is, it doesn't have the Tropicool tampo's on the car!
F:  KNIGHT54 just bought a Hotwheels 'Heat Fleet Series' School Bus (the green one with the flames on top and side. Sounds normal right? Well it is on a blister card that says 'Rigor Motor' #300.
The other item i just purchased was a Target Exclusive Fathers Day Pro Racing Hotwheels car set. This set has Richard Petty, printed on the bottom of the box with his # 43 car beside it along with his sons car # 44 and his grandson car # 45 each with their name on there race car and on the bottom of the box beside their cars. The misprint is on Richard Petty's car the name printed on both sides of his car above the passenger and driver side windows is John Andretti. Maybe someone can give me some insight on that one?
G: rsouther@ was checking the pegs and found my first error, a #233 MR2 Rally with the right rear wheel jammed HARD up into the body. The blister was perfect. I was hooked!
#266 '59 Cadillac No windshield.
#768 - Lamborghini Countach I have two. One has 5 spoke wheels on front and 5 dot wheels on back. The other has the 5 dots on front and 5 stars on rear. I found them side by side on the pegs. I think they may have come from the same case.
#577 - Police Cruiser/Fire Chief The same one you have on your page.
#494 - Mercedes 500SL No chrome on RR wheel only.
#473 - Street Beast Card with BMW M1 inside (evidently common)
#448 - '67 Camaro with large 5 spoke on both front and rear. (There's no way the wheels can turn!) I have heard of this car having the whole base plate installed backwards.
#13284 - Dark Rider Splittin' Image card with Race Team Lumina inside.
#510 - Lambo Countach with 5 spoke rear, 5 dot front.
#13279 - Pearl Driver Passion When it was riveted together, the front was about 1/4'' off to one side so the body is twisted and the front grill is cracked. But they did get the rivet to hold!
#252 - Street Roader Has 3 spoke directional wheels in back, with blacked out construction tires in front.
#72 - School Bus card with black Police bus with bars inside (apparently common, but funny anyway.).
#695 - Tropicool Caddy with both right side wheels bent up at a 45 degree angle.
- Vintage series Twin Mill with Silhouette button.
- Dark Rider Street Beast on Flame throwers Hydroplane card.
- Matchbox VW Concept (Beetle) with VW tampo's upside down.
I have about ten other cars upside down in blister.
H. Toyman@ has found a '95 Treasure Hunt Cobra in the wrong package,
- and a White Lightning Li'l Red Express with the exhaust pipes on backwards.
. I. Tlunder@ has recently found a Tropicool Ice Cream Truck #693 with no rear wheels or axle.
J.  W1006@ found a GM Ultralite in Police Car packaging. The number is the Gm ultralite number the it is titled Police car is this rare?
K. Cndduggrer@ #601 Commando in a possibly misprinted card. It says Tandem Machine Guns on the bottom of the card, but none on truck (Jeep P/U).
#633 Dodge Caravan, 1998 First Editions: Wrong car. Has Escort Rally {No.637} in blister.
#516 Mercedes C Class, 1997 First Editions: Sideways in blister. Bottom of car is towards the card.
L.  Rsjwells@ found new style 4X4's package with the vehicles from Crazy Classics II inside.
M.  Donald_jr@ I thought I would tell you of some of my 'snafu' cars.
Black Ferrari (5dots) with the larger wheels up from smaller in back.
Green Viper with small GWS in front and Jag xk8 - sws front & 5sp rear.....this is very weird because I have not heard of this car ever having 5sp (except in the poster).
Most cars with different wheels have wheels that are both available on the car.
I have about 20 others, When I finally get a scanner I'll send you a few pics.
It is cool to see a part of a web page dedicated to factory mistakes.
N.  turkeylig@ has a #257 - In Costco's 20 pack We found a 3- Window 34, silver with flames, missing the engine block in a perfect blister pack.
O.  Roy(toyguz)I also have a 98 Customized C3500 on an AT-A-TUDE card that I found on the peg but todays find just makes this one a little Snafu...
P. Patrick W. hw4007@ Hello, I have a 1998 Tattoo Machines 93 Camaro it has 5sp in front and 3sp in the rear.
A Neet Streeter thats 'MATCHBOX' style.
A 1996 FE Daytona w/ SB in front, and 5sp in rear.
3 misspkg's, the 1st one is a 1997 White Ice Splittin Image 2 in a Ferrari 250 pkg, And I also have a 1996 FE Chevy 1500 in a 1996 Flamethrower pkg, And lastly I have a BMW 350i in a 1997 FE 25th Anniversary Lamborgini pkg.
BTW today I found a windowless Tow-Jam! There is no Interior! 12/3/98.
Q. Jeanette@ I have a Bad Mudder with no spare tire assembly.
R. STREETBEAST@ I have found the TAIL DRAGGER-in A (CHRYSLER THUNDERBOLT) PACKAGE. Also the TROPICOOL SERIES CORVETTE w/o tampos.
S. Hwcolectr1@ Hi I was reading your page about some of the cars people are finding. I thought now I can tell somebody about the mistakes I found.
I have several #1 98fe escort rallies with different printing on the bottom. One says Ford Rally, and the other one says Escort Rally.
The #10 dairy delivery with 3sp on back amd 5sp on front.
The #7 32 ford in slideout package, also on 32 ford I have it with piece of the excess plasic hanging from the roof of the car. At first glance I thought it had a person inside it.
I have #13 hotseat with the back of the card reading #14 cord where it should say Ford gt90.
I have #22 Super comp dragster made without front wheels or axles.
I have a Tatoo machines corvette on Jaguar xj220 Int card package.
I have also got a Vw golf without tampo on the top or right side
I have got a hotwheels nascar package saying Kyle Petty and Telling his profile and it has the Tide car inserted but the picture on the card is the Hotwheels car.
I really enjoyed your site and keep up the good work
T. Brenda R-M@ While shopping at Wal Mart, in Millilani Hawaii, I found two strange pieces. One was a Rockin' Rods Series turbo flame. It had no front wheels. The other was truly intriguing. It is called the Ferrari F512M. Funny thing about it is it looked just like the Ferrari Tesstarossa hanging beside it. I bought them both for future comparison. I also have a Jaguar D-Type from the 1998 First Edition Series. It doesn't say 1998 First Edition and also the writing on the back is in English, French and Spanish. Also in the top right hand corner is a big 3 with a plus sign. Any info on the F512M and the multi-language Jag would be cool.
U. Giant Troll@ i found that the jiffy lube bus has a mistake the hotwheels logo is spelled "hot whee".
V.  dtb@ Just wanted to say Hello and that I enjoy you web site. It's always interesting to see what fellow Hot Wheel enthusiast are finding on errors. I today just got back from Wally world (Walmart) and found my second error car from the peg. My first being the Blue Mustang 1999 F.E. Today I found a Tattoo machines series #3 of 4 cars---Stutz Blackhawk---with NO decals on one side. The car is totally plain, not even a Hot wheel logo. But on the opposite side (towards the blister card) very hard to see without taking it off the blister, it has its decals (reverse side).
W. mxjxp@ Found your site though a search on Lycos. Just wanted to add my 2 cents...I found my first error in '97. It was the white ,Twinmill II from the White Ice Series .Instead of chrome 5 spoke wheels , as I was used to seeing, it had 5 spokes in front and 3 spokes in back.I found it at an Eckerd drugstore .
X.
