Firmware files have an .ipsw extension and can be found at the following locations:
On Windows XP :
Documents and Settings\
On Windows Vista/Windows 7:
Users\[UserName]
On Mac:
~/Library/iTunes/iPhone Software Updates

You can then place the file in that location and run the update, iTunes will pick the file up, verify it and skip the download portion of the update.

why do apple provide help pages for issues re incomplete file downloads?
Didnt they waste enough of my time already as a result of my three failed attempts to download a file larger than 700mb? Time I will never get back....
Product is defective by consumer standards. It's not like they're not getting feedback about the issue. Too arrogant to listen to their own customers.
