Workers Of Ibiza

Today we start a new series on the people who make Ibiza their home during the summer by taking a job on the Island for the Tourist season, which runs from May to October. An international workforce come to Ibiza to experience first hand what the magical Island has to offer. It's hard work in hot, humid, conditions and not easy to do when everybody else is on holiday and enjoying themselves. The majority are trained multi lingual professionals and this series hopes to delve into the many nationalities and personalities to find out what makes them tick and what its like to work in Ibiza. First up is the Hotel Animation worker, a job that requires trained disciplines and where a positive and happy attitude is required every day while on duty.

The Animation Team Entertainer.  Italian Fabio Marzano.

Tell us a little about yourself.

Fabio at Work
I am 24, from Bari, in Italy and left home at 18 to pursue a career in the Tourism industry. I worked two seasons in Egypt and in Greece before making it to Ibiza for the first time this season. I always wanted to come to Ibiza and jumped at the opportunity when Fiesta Consulting offered me the contract. I have worked in countries such as Spain, France, Dominican Republic, Holland, England, and the Czech Republic.

What is Hotel Animation

Its a Team job where hotels around the world hire us for about a six month contract to entertain the guests, get to know them and try to include them in a party and holiday atmosphere. You have to be able to work long hours and always have a smile on your face no matter how bad or tired you feel. Ability to speak different languages and learn dance routines are important. Its big business and there are jobs available all year round depending on the country you are in.

What do you love about the Job

The chance to meet fun people and make lifelong friends. Its a competitive business with young, talented and interesting people always trying to break through and work for the best hotels. The opportunity to travel the world and see new places. After the Ibiza season we will move on to the winter destinations of Egypt, The Caribbean and The Canaries.

What are your work conditions like

The Famous Animation Team@Club Augusta
We get paid roughly 1000 a month but that includes full board and lodgings at the Hotel, so you would have no other expenses. Its a team environment with a fun Holiday atmosphere most of the time. It is hard work with long hours 10.30 am to 11.30pm with about two hours for lunch and dinner. Hardest part of the job is to be happy all the time but we are professionals so we get used to it. I get to spend three weeks at Home with my family in Bari and look forward to that break every season.

What do you think of Ibiza.

I love where I am here at Hotel Club Augusta just outside Santa Eularia because its so chilled and relaxed. Ibiza has that great dual personality of relaxation and partying. The beaches and crystal clear waters around the Island are really special, as are the local people, who are great to work with. The holidaymakers are good fun also. All we ask is that people say hello to us, we are not there to make holidaymakers do something they dont want to do, we just want them to have a good time.

Whats Next For Fabio Marzano

I will try to stay in the industry and work my way up to resort manager or a similar position. Its a young persons job and at 30 years of age plus its hard to keep up with all the jumping around, long hours and working in the heat. Its an industry that I love and my advice is to only consider it if you are dedicated and willing to work hard. The rewards are great and the quality of life is good.

Fabio Marzano is Cheif Entertainer at Hotel Club Augusta, located on the beach of Playa De S'Aragmassa, Santa Eulaila Del Rio Ibiza. Check out the hotel here www.hotelclubaugusta.com

Next Week Marcelo Benitez from Argentina.
