Experience of supervising doctoral students.
Since I was rather early with doctoral competence at Umeå university – the first beside our full professor Kristo Ivanov, I had to share his work with supervising doctoral students to a high degree, even if prof Ivanov was formally responsible. This was especially relevant and important for the doctoral students working in the research projects I was leading. This type of system has later been developed into a formal system of tree types of supervisors. The main formal responsible supervisor. The operating supervisor. Assistant supervisors
As operating supervisor I have been working with around fifteen doctoral students. Two of these are now professors and six are Phd or Docent.
In connection with this type of activities I was together with Åke Grönlund initiating Research School North in Informatics – a cooperation between the Informatics departments at Mid Sweden University, Umeå University and Luleå University. I was also performing the first lecture at this research shool run by Åke Grönlund.
