Vespa 125 g.t.r. (VNL2)

(Similar to the 150cc Vespa Sprint VLB2)

This is a vespa well suited for carrying a passanger. The frame is of the same type as the Vespa GL models and thereby more stable than the models from the early sixties. It has a 4 gear manual gearbox, 125cc engine with about 6 hp. 6V electrical system and drum operated brakes. Oil is manually mixed at 2%

PROS: Althogh it is "only" a 125cc (and thereby rideable by persons with a license for light weight motorcycles) it has a suprisingly alert engine. I have myself been on a one wek vacation with a g.t.r. and carrying two persons with luggage was no problem, top speed was always above 55 mph. It is a cofortable model since it has a long saddle and the steering head a little higher up than the 60:s vespas. It is easy to find spare parts and many are also interchangeable with other models of the same years. The 150 sprint has due to its larger cylinder somewhat more power and better torque but top speed is about the same on the ones I've ridden.

CONS: The gearbox has the gears very close and it is easy to shift "inbetween". The gearbox cruciform is prone to wear on older models with more than 18000 miles. You notice it by the fact that the gears, especially 2:nd, jump out of position when you accelerate rapidly. The position of the backlight is very exposed and you only need to bump in to it slightly to crack the glass. The same goes for the turn signals on the outer of the handlebars.
