1971 Mercury Capri 1600 - $7,800

Hi folks, Here’s a chance to own a classic Capri and help my injured daughter. My 41-year-old daughter, a Navy veteran and mother of a 16-year-old daughter, was nearly killed on Aug. 8 when a guy cut her off while she was riding her motorcycle to work in Montana. Nearly every bone in her body broke, her carotid artery was damaged, and - although she was wearing protective gear and a full-face helmet - she suffered some traumatic brain injury.

Paramedics and surgeons saved her life. She was airlifted to Utah and spent five months in the hospital. She returned home Dec. 29. The man who caused the crash faces felony charges, but she has yet to receive any compensation from his insurance company.

Here’s one of the GoFundMe sites that are helping her pay her bills.

An Amazing Offer by a High School Classmate

Recently, a classmate of mine from high school, whom I've seen only once since we graduated in 1976, said she would donate to my daughter any money I made by selling her 1971 Capri. I simply can't believe her generosity!

The car is in pretty good condition. Kept in a barn in Northern New Jersey after being purchased from an owner in California, this German-built beauty - with just under 50,000 miles on the odometer - is in great shape for a 53-year-old classic.

Its European 1.6L Kent I4 engine starts, runs and idles well. The 4-speed manual gearbox works fine as does the clutch. The brakes seem OK as do the electrics. The body has minimal rust; there are a few spots that can be fixed relatively easily. The frame appears rust-free.

As happens to cars that were daily drivers before being rescued by aficionados like my high school friend, sunlight made some of the Capri’s vinyl upholstery brittle and caused it to separate and split, as shown in the photos. With only a little TLC, this car can be awesome. Asking price: $7,800 or best offer.

Thanks for any interest and please be confident that your purchase will REALLY help my daughter and granddaughter get their lives back together!
