James Cameron not only directed the movie, but has taken many submarine voyages to visit the real Titanic on the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean. I want to share with you some amazing and interesting facts about the Titanic tragedy that occurred. Hopefully there will be some things here that you did not know!
♦ Late in the night on April 14th, 1912 the Titanic hit an iceberg and ended up sinking early in the morning on April 15th, 1912.
♦ The exact number of people who lost their lives from the titanic sinking is not 100% accurate because they know there were many that were not listed on the ships manifest.
♦ They think there were about 2,222 passengers on the titanic when it hit the iceberg. There were 1,517 people that lost their lives and 715 survived.
♦One of the largest mistakes that the Titanic made was thinking it was unsinkable. This confidence in the ship led them to make the decision to not put enough lifeboats on the Titanic. They only had enough room to get half of the ships people on a lifeboat. There were 16 boats that held 65 each which comes to 1,040. With all the craziness and panic, many lifeboats left with only a few people on board. If all lifeboats would have been filled correctly, over 1,000 could have been saved.
♦The titanic was on it’s first or maiden voyage when it hit the iceberg off the coast of Newfoundland and sank in the Atlantic Ocean. It was traveling from South Hampton England to New York City.
♦ The titanic used 29 boilers to fuel two large main steam engines.
♦ The Titanic’s official name was the RMS Titanic, RMS stood for “Royal Mail Steamer”.
♦There was a sea law in place during the time that the Titanic sank that stated that all women and children were to be rescued first. There were a few people that violated that law but for the most part it was followed. Most of the people who lost their lives on the Titanic were men.
♦The captain of the Titanic was very proud, he made the decision to go down with his ship. His name was Edward John Smith.
♦Thomas Andrews was the head engineer of the Titanic, he was on board when the Titanic sank into the Atlantic ocean. He was one of the people that deemed it unsinkable. What Andrew could not have ever known was the damage the iceberg did to the Titanic. It cut a 300 foot slash into the side of the Titanic, which caused water to fill up in 5 of the 15 hulls.

It was the largest man made moveable object ever constructed. It was 92.5 feet wide and 882 feet long, which is longer than 3 football fields.

Why say it was an “unsinkable ship” if it killed lots of people,you really can’t be positive that it won’t sink.We are doing a report on the Titanic for Language Arts. (^0^)/\(^0^)
