What is the best brand of Deep-Cycle Battery for a not so outrageous cost? What should I look for when buying new Deep-Cycle Batteries? I plan to buy two for my trolling motor.

Rolls is the best brand of battery on the face of the earth. It is not always available in all places, but best commercial heavy duty, largest plate weight, longest lasting.

I think it's hard to be the Wal-Mart store brand. They're only $40 bucks or so. You can replace a whole bunch of the $40 batteries for the price of single battery from other sources.
I will admit: I have not actually done a cost analysis, but, I'm on my third season of the Walmat battery for my troller, and they're still fine. Total cost: less than $100 for both, tax included.
Others may have a better, more thorough analysis which would support buying a more expensive battery.

I just bought a dual purpose battery from Wal-Mart. It came with a 18-month full replacement warranty for $62.95. If I ever have a problem with when on vacation I am sure I can find a Wal-Mart close by.

Trojan makes a good battery.
The best thing to [prolong battery life] is not [repeatedly discharge] them too far. Stay above 50%-discharge, and keep them on a float charger (not a trickle charger) when they are not in use.

There are lots of well-made batteries out there Deep cycle and high amps are a must for the kind of work your going to do Battery maintenance is very very important Get a good recharger and read the book.

It is often quite expensive to have batteries shipped. I do not think you can get shipping on wet cell lead-acid batteries that are not sealed. This tends to limit the choices to ones available locally.

The Wal-Mart batteries are made by Johnson Controls, a company that OEMs batteries for many brands.

A battery sold by Cabela's does it all - deep cycle & starting - and great reserve - shipped for 15 bucks or so your door - have had 4 of them for 18 months and they are brand new in strength.

I just bought four Group-29 dual purpose [batteries] at Walmart. The guy who made the charging system I installed recomended them over any other battery. I believe Walmart's EverStart Marine batteries are made by Johnson Controls. When I compared West Marine, Sears, Bass Pro, and Exide, the Walmart batteries had the highest reserve ampere, CCA, and MCA numbers of all the others, and they were about $30-$40 cheaper per battery.

The 2 Wal-Mart Everstart Extreme deep cycle/staring batteries I bought last spring were made by Delphi.

I'll have to 2nd the Wal-Mart EverStart. The EverStart Group 27 Deep Cycle I bought two years ago has proven to be very dependable and is still going strong. Great value for the money.

I don't care how cheap it is, I'll never by anything from Wal-Mart.
My experience has been great with Optima batteries. I've yet to run one of their deep cycle batteries in a marine environment, but the red-top I have in my truck is currently in it's FOURTH car and 9th year. I think that says a lot about their quality.

And for the record, Optima ( www.optimabatteries.com ) is also a Johnson Controls company and their marine batteries are the Blue Top line.

Costco has great marine batteries and you can't beat their return and warranty policy.

I with pglein. Can honestly say I have never been in a walmart and don't plan to. I buy my batteries from Sears. They have been very good to me and the cost with trade is about 65.00 if I recall.
