Tobacco-Free Environment

In keeping with our mission to improve the health and lives of our patients and community, Cleveland Clinic Mercy Hospital prohibits smoking and the use of tobacco products by patients, staff, visitors and all others on their grounds, including property regularly maintained by Mercy Hospital. This includes not smoking in a vehicle parked on these grounds. Staff is also prohibited from smoking or using tobacco products any time between start and end of their shift.

Effective January 1, 2009, Mercy Hospital will not hire anyone who smokes or uses tobacco. Former smokers and tobacco users must be free from use of any nicotine product for at least 90 days before being considered for employment. The pre-placement screening process will include a urine screen for cotinine, a metabolite of nicotine found in cigarette smoke.
