#71 Castel del Monte
Apulia, Italy
1240
This is NOT an official Lego site

This castle was built and possibly also designed by the Hohenstaufen Holy Roman Emperor Frederick II in 1240. Located in the Apulia region of southern Italy, it may have been the keep for a larger castle that was never built or served as a hunting lodge. In its current state it is virtually defenceless. Its octagonal design with eight octagonal towers and octagonal courtyard is unique.
