This Sims 3 Guide was originally written for the PC and Mac versions of the game, but also will help owners of the console versions - PS3, Xbox 360 and Wii. Please remember some info or numbers may have changed.

Catching a Death Fish in the Sims 3

Fishing returns to the Sims 3 from the Sims 2: Seasons. In this guide, I'll teach you how to fish in the Sims 3, where to get started and tips on what bait for each fish type, and what fishing spots to use to catch some of the more rare fish in the game. When you're done, you'll know how to make money with fishing and how to catch the death fish, robot fish, angel fish and vampire fish. This Guide's Fish List has been updated to include fish from all expansions up to The Sims 3 Island Paradise Expansion Pack.

Fishing Skill Self-Employment Table
The Sims 3 Ambitions brought us the ability to label Sims self-employed in any of the money-making professions. To register as self-employed, simply gain a level in the skill and head to city hall. Here are the levels for this skill:

The Sims 3 Angler Self Employment Career
LevelJob RankNeeded to LevelBonus
1Rod and Reel Rookie$30-
2Empty Net Trawler$75-
3Hook Baiter$500-
4Freshwater Freshman$1000-
5Saltwater Initiate$2500$500
6Chub Checker$7500-
7Local Ahab$15000$1500
8Deadliest Catcher$30000-
9Old Salty$60000$2500
10Legendary Piscator-$5000

While the fishing spot information in this guide will not help Xbox 360 and PS3 owners of the Sims 3 for console, it will give tons of tips. Console players will benefit from the tips here, as well as the bait needed to catch types of fish. There's likely a death fish somewhere near your local graveyard!

World Adventures offers some great new places to fish. Sims who travel to the other countries will find several new varieties of fish to catch. This of course makes some changes to how fishing challenges are completed if you have the expansion installed. Instead of having to catch all fish, you'll have to catch a minimum of twenty to complete the Amateur Ichthyologist challenge. This keeps traveling helpful while not imposing a harder limit on people who install the expansion.

Fishing has many uses in the Sims 3. Your Sims can make money from selling fish, catch fresh ingredients for cooking meals, or even get high quality fertilizer for their gardens. Fishing is a very accessible self-employment career option in the game. The angler trait will help your Sim to catch fish faster than the average joe, so if you want to be a truly great at fishing it's recommended. Loves the outdoors also gives a boost to the fishing skill.

Fishing in the Sims 3 can sometimes net you neat items fro the depths of a lake, or even from the ocean.Fishing can occasionally net you interesting items. Mysterious Mr. Gnomes come, I even once found a lap top computer in a lake. You never know what you'll catch. Even a simple candle you find can be sold easily for 60 simoleons. Mysterious Mr. Gnome is worth over 1,000!

What to do with the fish you catch? Having Fun and Making Money with Fishing!

Caught fish are used in many cooking recipes, and as I said above, the death fish can bring immortality to Sims through the Ambrosia recipe. Additionally, you can use high level fish to fertilize your garden. If you've wondered how to cook fish, note that you can cook any type of fish individually using the portable fire pit. You can also have your Sims take it with them while fishing to have a nice day by the lake!

My Sim masters the fishing skill in the Sims 3, and does it by catching a death fish!Once you get your skill level up a bit, and use the right bait, fishing is an easy high quality fertilizer to help grow good plants with the Sims 3's Gardening skill. Since catching perfect fish is also easy, you can dramatically boost meal quality using fresh caught fish instead of the store-bought average quality seafood.

The only directly fishing-related lifetime wish is Presenting the Perfect Private Aquarium. This Lifetime Wish can be challenging, but not with all the tips you'll find in this guide. Look to the bait section to help your Sim catch better fish, and read my aquariums page for info on how to start making your own perfect private aquarium.

Aquarium use isn't limited to this lifetime wish. Show off your your fishing prizes. Aquariums make nice home decorations for Sims, and can add a little variety. Just keep in mind you'll have to feed the fish every day or it will die.

Fish can also be sent and mounted, to make them into permenant wall decorations, and act as trophies. Anglers will love having some of these around the house.

So, as you can see, there are many ways to use the fishing skill to your Sim's advantage. I hope this guide helps you catch the biggest fish around, and your Sims have a blast doing it! If you have comments about this fishing guide or any tips to add, join our Sims 3 Forum.

There is in the corner :) It's the lot near the Medina Household, not the lot on the top of the hill which is called Cementerio Antiguo.

I've noticed that the Suave Seller reward will let you buy fish at the grocery store and sell them back at a higher price. Not sure if your fishing skill is factored in this. Also, the Haggler reward should get you a better profit margin.

I've just placed a pond in my lot, but I don't know how to include fish in it. I often feel like stocking the pond is useless.

Well, you have to stock the pond with fish your sim has caught, it's the only way to actually get fish into a player made pond.

Has anyone ever ran into a problem in sims 3 where selling fish is not counting toward self employed angler job experience. I keep selling fish but I'm stuck on level 4 at 893 dollars till level up. I've wasted hundreds of dollars of fish that are not impacting my job experience
