Research

What we do

CEPR's research is conducted by a network of over 1,700 Fellows and Affiliates, based largely in European universities. The Centre helps these researchers develop and obtain funding for research, administer and execute these projects and disseminate the results of the research.

How we do it

CEPR's research is carried out under the auspices of 13 Programme Areas, led by Programme Directors who provide intellectual leadership and quality control. 

Within the overall CEPR Network, there are also a number of smaller networks, each focusing on a particular research topic. Researchers also collaborate through "Working Groups" - smaller, ad hoc groups of researchers who work on particular topics, for example the Macroeconomics of Global Interdependence (MGI).

Within each Programme Area there are a number of research projects underway.

Additionally, CEPR has recently established a new type of research network: a Research and Policy Network, the main aim of which is to build a community of researchers around a particular topic and to ensure that policy issues are considered over a longer time period than is often the case when a single piece of output is produced and then the researchers involved move on.  

A RPN consists of 15-30 experts with an interest in a topic of high policy relevance and where academic research and collaboration with policymakers can have a high impact. It draws its CEPR Fellows and Affiliates from different Programmes, and can also appoint CEPR Associate Fellows for the duration of the Network. Associate Fellows can be academics with the potential to be appointed as Affiliates or Fellows, or they can be experts in policy institutions who are committed to contributing to the Network. The Network may open a debate page on CEPR's policy platform VoxEU and may produce output in the form of eBooks or Policy Insights.
