C-Motion Press Release
Scott Selbie carries the legacy of Visual3D with him to Canada
Maryland, USA / January 2, 2024 C-Motion announces today that it has agreed to sell its
world-class biomechanics analysis software assets to HAS-Motion of Kingston, Ontario in Canada. This sale
allows C-Motion to ensure that the applications trused by the biomechanics community over the past
two decades, most notably Visual3D, will continue to be developed and supported under the leadership of
Scott Selbie, PhD, President of HAS-Motion.
C-Motion was founded in 1997 in order to commercialize a suite of software tools for analysing motion
capture data as part of a technology transfer from the United States' National Institutes of Health.
These tools were the genesis of Visual3D, which became commercially available in 2001. Since then, C-Motion
has continued to support advances in biomechanics research through continual development of Visual3D,
offering world-class support to customers around the world, and introducing new products including
Inspect3D and the Dynamic Stereo X-Ray suite of applications.
HAS-Motion was founded in 2008 by Scott Selbie to conduct biomechanical research and development
in Canada, collaborating with C-Motion and researchers at Queen’s University to help move the
field of biomechanics forward. Successes include the commercialization of principal component analysis
applied to biomechanical waveforms (Inspect3D) and the development and spinoff of a markerless motion
capture technology (Theia Markerless, Kingston, Ontario).
