RELAPSE PREVENTION

* An effective intervention in the form of a course for clients/patients regardless of whether alcohol or other drugs are the primary problem. The emphasis is placed upon correcting deficits in social skills and improving the individual’s capacity to cope with high-risk situations that usually precede a relapse.

* The training for those members of staff who will hold the client/patient courses gives basic knowledge about relapse prevention from the perspective of behavioural scientific theory. The training is based upon the work of A.Marlatt and P.Monti. The aim of the training is to enable participants to be able to start up and run their own client/patient courses in relapse prevention.

* Steve Wicks has extensive experience of relapse prevention, both as a teacher and clinician.

* The staff training course comprises three whole days and is based upon the Swedish relapse prevention manual “Alarm Clock” which is provided at the start of the course.
