THE KEEP UP: AMERICAN HORROR STORY: COVEN – EPISODE 12
Episode 12 – Go To Hell
Fiona is fucking dead, or at least she appears to be, by the hands of none other than her jazz playing, axe swinging main squeeze. That little detail alone would have been enough to make this episode great, but there was so much going on this week, while it did feel somewhat rushed, everything is coming to an end.
We start out with an awesome homage to the silent film era, but this time including a witch most likely from Salem, performing the Seven Wonders – a ritual the next Supreme prospect must not only perform, but survive. Next week we know that the girls are going to be subject to said tests, and I’m sure not all of them will survive.
Queenie is back at the Coven with seemingly no bad feelings from anyone other than Fiona, we have an awesome scene with these two as Queenie is defiant towards her, and somewhat boasting at the fact that she may be the next Supreme. It’s been a while since Fiona has shown some real power, but she does here, and reminds the viewers she is still the toughest witch in the Coven.
With Marie gone, and Queenie on the hunt, we get some awesome, and in my opinion too late in the season, scenes with Papa Legba, played by an almost unrecognizable Lance Reddick. He is best known as Cedric Daniels from The Wire. Either way his character is awesome, Queenie explains him as some sort of voodoo deity. With his help, Queenie is lead to where Delphine is now residing – her old house right in town, posing as the new tour guide. Delphine is tired of having her name smeared by current guide, and takes it upon herself to take over the duties in a fashion only she can.
There were a couple of confusing parts this episode, mainly whether or not Delphine is actually dead or not. Queenie apparently killed her in the attic of her old house, sending her to “hell”, which we later learn is run by Papa Legba…and Marie is there also. While Delphine is reliving the time when Marie tortured and killed her daughters, Marie’s spirit essentially “takes over” the body of the Marie of the past. That’s the best way I can explain what happened, but the actions of the characters during this scene explain things a little better.
Now for the biggest surprise/shock/holy shit moment of the episode, possibly season, at least so far. Cordelia eventually regains her “second sight”, with the help of Fiona, and in doing this she reaches out to the Axeman, and informs him on Fiona’s future plans outside of the Coven do not include him. With almost no convincing, he agrees to kill Fiona, it’s hard to say in this show whether or not someone is going to stay dead, or not. But we’re told that he fed her body to the crocodiles in the swamp. Fiona didn’t really have a strong exit, so I find it hard to believe she is completely gone. When the Axeman shows up at the Coven, bloody and disoriented, the girls decide that they are going to kill him in the same fashion that he first died some years ago by the hands of a previous class.
Some other things happened this week, like Misty being found by Cordelia and Queenie. We also saw Zoe and Kyle come back from Orlando, which takes the cake as the stupidest, useless part of the show. I understand Myrtle sent Zoe and Kyle away in order to protect them, but why bother if they were to just show up in the very next episode?
I’m not sure how the season finale will go down, but it’s safe to say some of the girls will die. I still have a slight feeling Fiona may come back, and kill everyone, staying the Supreme, but that’s what I WANT to happen. What will PROBABLY happen is that Zoe survives the Seven Wonders, proving herself to the new Supreme.
