Thin Protectant
The first coating
A primary rust protectant is a thin,
dark brown compound. It locks to the metal &
paint, and dries solid, forming a stong barrier. It is applied with
a special nozzle, and full protective and pressurized breathing equipment
must be used for underbody and exterior applications. It is applied
before the primary underbody protectant (thick protectant) is used.
Photo #1:
This photo was taken of the left front suspension application.
Note: The
protectant from the interior frame treatment can be seen in some of the
frame's access holes.
Photo #2: This photo was taken during the left rear
suspension application. The gas tank pipes can be seen at the top of
the photo.
Note: The
gas tank pipes were rusted and leaking on this car, so the tank was
removed and will be replaced. As you might expect, a leaking gas tank
is a serious situation, and is not a common occurrence in relatively
young cars. |

Thick Protectant
The primary protectant!
The primary rust protectant is a thick black compound. It is applied with a special nozzle, and full
protective and pressurized breathing equipment must be used.
Photo #1: This photo was taken of the mid-underbody
application. It takes four applications (front to back, back to front,
side to side) with a powerful halogen lamp in order to fully protect
the car to the Rostskyddsspecialisten's own extremely high standards.
Note: Most companies
simply make one, very thick, application by blindly spraying the tough
spots, and often miss areas that are in the "shadow" of the
protectant spray. Skill, professional pride, and dedication to the job
are some qualities that make the Rostskyddsspecialisten's rust treatment
the absolute best, bar none! And that
is backed by high-tech digital documentation and the best
garantee in the business!
Photo #2: This is the left rear axle, which can be
recognized from prior photos in the sandblasting and prime/paint
description.
Note: The gas
tank is removed in this photo because (as described earlier) the gas
pipes were rusted and corroded, and leaking gas. A new gas tank, fully
protected with Tectyl, will be installed later (here).
Photo #3: The top of this photo is where the gas tank
would usually go; the underbody is being protected where the gas tank
normally prevents such treatment, including the pipes and tubing.
Photo 4: The thick black protectant has been applied about
halfway out on the left rear suspension arm to show the process.
Note: The white
glob hanging down from the top of the photo is one of the gas lines,
which has been temporarily sealed.
Photo #5: Close up of the now-familiar view of the
left rear suspension area (looking back), with half of the protectant applied
so far.
Photo #6: The car underbody is now treated with thick
Tectyl.
Note: The new,
fully protected gas tank is now installed. It the large object that
the exhaust pipe snakes around, seen in the middle third of the photo! |
