Buccaneers receiver Mike Williams stabbed in thigh, allegedly by his brother

Update 9:09 PM: Mike Williams was released from the hospital, per Fox 13.

Update: Per JoeBucsFan and the Tampa Tribune, Mike Williams' injury is not life-threatening.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Mike Williams has been stabbed in the thigh, Chris Fischer of WTSP reports after talking to the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office. Williams is currently in the hospital, and the police are trying to find his brother for questioning, who appears to be the main suspect.

The Buccaneers released the following statement in response to his hospitalization.

We are aware of the situation that occurred at the residence of Mike Williams and are working with him and the authorities to get additional information. While we have limited knowledge at this time, our primary concern is for the safety and well-being of all involved. We will refrain from comment until we can get a better understanding of the situation.

This has not been a good past few months for Mike Williams, who was reportedly scheduled for release under the previous regime, and has made headlines for running a party house and facing misdemeanor charges. General manager Jason Licht has noted that Williams should stop getting into the headlines off the field -- which is not exactly what's happening right now. Then again, it's hard to hold getting stabbed by someone else against Williams.

Williams is due $1.8 million this year and $6.2 million next year, and $6.4 million of that compensation is fully guaranteed, which means any release would in fact cost the Bucs $6 million in cap space this year, unless clauses in his contract would allow the team to void those guarantees, but none of his conduct seems severe enough to do so.
