On the Road

Today has been a great day!!  The morning started a little crazy, with Pam behind the wheel of my car practicing her stick driving.  In the parking lot of Intersport, Pam dodged the tractors and cars, and I thought she did a pretty good job.  Then it was a trip to Intersport, when I stated "I am no going to buy anything".  Then guess what??  I did, I bought a shirt at D&D...on sale, so that's how I justified it!  Then it was off to shoot-around practice, lunch at Droskan, practice with the 96-97 boys at Haga, and then our evening practice at Gammliahallen.
Everybody is eager and looking forward to our game tomorrow vs. Brahe in Jönköping.  Our flight takes off from Umeå at 6.50 in the morning, then it is a 2 hour drive to Linköping to check into our hotel.  From our hotel we will have to drive another hour to Jönköping for the game which tips off at 19.00.  So we have a full day on the road, but hopefully we have some time to rest up and prepare for the game!

Tomorrow we face Brahe who has beat us twice in the regular season.  They had only won 2 games all year, and they both happen to be against us.  So 3rd time is a charm!  They match up well with us, so it will just be a battle of which team plays the best defense.  Of course I'm pulling for us!!

We will return to Umeå Thursday morning.  Then it is EASTER weekend.  I'm looking forward to another Easter in Sweden, although I will not be skiing this time.  No set plans yet what we will do, but there has been talk about the team getting together and grilling!!  I hope the weather is good!!  Today was a beautiful day, sunny and +3!!  The snow is melting and water puddles everywhere.  I love that!  Let the snow continue to melt.  Spring is in the air!

Check out my present from Julia's mom when she was in Stockholm!! So pretty!!  I like them a lot!!  They fit perfect in my place!!  SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO SWEET!!!

On the road...over and out!!

PEACE!

Dinner on Saturday Night!

Dinner at my place Saturday night with Frida, Ida, Pam, Gina and Carro!!  I made lemon chicken, twice-baked potatoes, salad and a chocolate cake for dessert!!  Turned out good!!

Then Mia came and joined us later!

The girls dressed in black!

Thanks for a great night Ladies!!!

Ha en trevligt måndag!!

Last Minute of Play!

Sent to me from Coach Tony.  The crowd was great at the end!!

Yeah Comets!!

COMEBACK VICTORY!!

After more than 3 weeks of not playing, Friday night we faced our first competition of the kval vs. div. I team Kvarnby and were able to escape with a win 72-70!!  It wasn't easy.  Kvarnby had a solid performance against us and played very well.  They have one american guard who played at Georgia Tech and a 196 (6'4) german post player that were difficult to guard.  Okay, I can mainly talk about myself here...I could not stop the post player for most of the game and I struggled offensively big time with her guarding me.  I had one of the worst shooting performance of my life.  Nothing would fall for me and I kept settling for outside shots, and not attacking the basket which is more my game.  I was beyond frustrated during the game.

But thank God I have my fellow teammates and ALL OF THEM, including coach Tony, told me I'm a better shooter than that and they believed I could do it.  And that's exactly what we did at the end of this game, everybody believed!!  In the 4th quarter with 5 min to go...the score stood 67-57 to Kvarnby.  We were down 10 pts and frustrations wore on our faces.  We had a quick team huddle on the floor, and Pam yelled to us that we all just need to drop our attitudes and PLAY.  And I stongly believe that was the turning point of the game.  We took the focus off each other, and begun to fight the team in green even harder.

We got a stop on defense and Pam then converted a 3 pointer on the other end.  A few more stops on defense and more put backs on offense...brought us closer and closer.  Then down only 3 pts, their american point guard (also a strong defender), fouls out of the game on an offensive foul.  That put me on the FT line were I converted 1-2 FT's (I shot so horrible from the foul-line 5-10..sick). So only down 2 points.  Kvarnby runs a play, gets a shot, misses, gets the offensive rebound, and I foul the post on the shot with 1.06 left in the game.  But our amazing crowd did a great job yelling and distracting the shooter, she missed both her free-throws!!  We get the ball back only down 2 pts!!  Then we ran a motion spread so Pam could take her defender 1 on 1, she drew the double team and kicked it to me wide-open on the wing.  Now leading up to this I had shot 0-6 from the 3-point line (HORRIBLE).  I hadn't made a shot to save my life.  But without even thinking about that, I shoot the 3-pointer and it swishes in!!!!  I HIT A SHOT, FINALLY!!  And with 43 seconds left we gain one of our first leads of the game.  TIME-OUT on the floor.

All we need is one more stop defensively and the game is ours!!  We came out of the time-out (when the picture up top was taken), and matched up defensively.  They ran a play, were unable to get what they wanted, and we get a quick steal and the ball back with about 30 seconds left.  They wait until 9 seconds left to foul Pam.  Pam shoots 2 FT's with 9 seconds left and converts 1-2.  So then we go up 2 pts, she misses the second...they are unable to take a time-out, and the time expires before they can even put up a shot attempt.  YESSSSSSSS!!!  We win!!  After a great comeback victory!!

So there is a pretty in-depth description of the last 5 minutes of our game.  It was exciting and I can remember a lot of it in my head.  Pam had a great game, scoring 27 pts and 8 rebounds I believe.  I some how ended up 22 pts and 11 rebounds.  Gina had 7 rebounds, Carro had 0 turnovers, it was a complete team effort overall!  Now there is a lot of things we can learn from this match.  We didn't play well at all, but we still got the win.  That's important.  We fought at the end and that's why we won!  We have to keep improving now, and learn from our mistakes and play better our next game vs. Brahe this Wednesday.  We have 3 games on the road now, so it's going to be tough, but nothing unattainable.

Last night I stayed up to watch Fort Lewis in the National Tournament Finals.  They lost to Emporia State in a close game through-out...however, Emporia pulled it out in the end and extended the lead by 10 pts or so and won the National Title.  I'm so proud of the Lady Skyhawks and what they accomplished this year!!  It's something that will go down in the history books for sure!!  It really made me proud and feel great to be a Ft. Lewis Alumni!  Great job this year girls!!  It was kind of crazy how I watched the game, but I skyped with my dad and he put the computer's camera on the TV so I could watch that way.  Kind of crazy but cool, because then I could talk with my dad at the same time.  They played on ESPN 2 and so crazy seeing my former boss, Coach Kellogg, and girls I coached being broadcast nationally!!  So awesome.  Too bad they couldn't pull out the win, but getting there is quite an accomplishment!!

Watching Fort Lewis on skype with my dad!

Tonight will be my second dinner party!!  Frida, Ida, Gina, Pam and Carro are coming over to test my cooking yet again!!  Looking forward to a great night!!

Have a great weekend everyone!!

Life is so much better when you win!!!

March Madness

Best time of the year!!  Where dreams come true!!

Last night we got together as a team and watched some March Madness together.  It was fun!!  It was even fun watching the american commercials.  Haven't seen those in awhile!!  OH I miss this time of year back home.  Everybody filling out their brackets and hoping for the upsets.  ANYTHING can happen!!  LOVE IT!

After watching basketball, it was a late night talking to some friends and family on skype.  It's a little easier to get a hold of people with the time change already happening their and not here yet.  I haven't talked to some people in awhile, so it was nice to have some time to do that.  Kind of stayed up a little too late though.  But it wasn't like I had anything urgent to do the next day!

Today was a very NON-active day.  Slept in, went to lunch, cleaned my apartment, took a nap.  In the evening it was pizza with Frida at Maxim, then out to a movie Shutter Island.  Pretty good film but with a very strange ending.  But it was a great night and good times always with Frida!!  We manage to stuff ourselves with godis and popcorn!!  FANTASTIC!!

A little bit more sun today, but now I stare out my window and see that it is snowing yet again.  GO AWAY SNOW.  I DON'T WANT YOU HERE ANYMORE.!  Tomorrow evening we are expected to have our schedule for qualifications.  So hopefully next week (weekend) we begin to play again!  It's been 3 weeks since our last game.  Now that's just crazy.

I'll be at Gammliahallen all-day tomorrow watching some youth basketball regional championships and handing out medals.  I figure I can also workout some in between games.  Frida and I are writing each other now on msn commenting how old we have become, going to the early movie and walking home while the others are going out.  I guess it's bound to happen!!

Hope you have had a fantastic weekend!!

Went to town today and met up with Julia and Johanna for fika at Waynes!!  It was a beautiful day today and the sun shinned bright!!  I took a long walk over to Expo in Teg and took some pictures of the weather on the way.  Here is what I enjoyed on my walk today!!  And the last picture I just threw in, my pretty tulips I bought this past weekend!!  SPRING!!

Tonight it will be a small gathering for Saint Patricks Day!!  They don't celebrate it here in Sweden, but there is a small group of international students that are hosting a St. Patty's party with live Irish music tonight that some of us will attend tonight!!  I've picked out my green outfit!!  Looking forward to a nice night after practice!!

HAPPY PATTY DAY!!

FLC SKYHAWKS!!

Elite Eight!!

And so they did it!! The Fort Lewis Women's Basketball team advances to the Elight Eight in Missouri!!  They defeated Concordia-St. Paul 73-64 last night in the North Central Regional final, also known as the Sweet Sixteen!  There next game will be March 23 vs. Seattle-Pacific, time is still undecided.  I can't wait to watch this game live over the computer and maybe we can have a little basketball viewing party!!

CONGRATULATIONS LADIES!!!  I am so happy for you all!!  Keep it going now!!

GO SKYHAWKS!!

Tarragona Spain!

So it's decided!!  I will meet Courtney and Dan in Barcelona on the 5th.  Most likely go and watch a soccer (fotball) match that night, FC Bacelona vs. CD Tenerife.  Maybe a day in Barcelona, then we are headed to Tarragona Spain!!  Hotel right off the ocean and the beach!!  Courtney found a great deal, so it looks like we will spend 5 days there and then back to Barcelona for another night.  The hotels are now booked!!  Our trip is coming together quite nice.  Will return to Umeå the night of the 11th!  Can't wait!!!!

Tarragona Spain!

Here is a picture of the hotel we will be staying at in Tarragona off the Costa Dorada at the Vistamar Hotel!!  Check out the pool right by the ocean!!  WHOOP WHOOP!!

Så där!!  It's getting more exciting and before I know, the time will be here!!

Today was early class with the guys, lunch at Droskan, practice at Teg, and then went to watch the KFUM Div. II guys play vs. IKSU.  It was an exciting game with a very interesting ending.  KFUM was down 8 pts with 2 min left and managed to tie the game, take it to overtime, and win in the final 5 minutes of play!  Great comeback guys!!  Sad and boring to hear that Dalen guys lost in their first game of play-offs.    Our practice ran late so I was unable to make the game.  I also decided to watch basketball, since I do play basketball!

Tonight I want to wish a very, very special GOOK LUCK to the Fort Lewis Women's Basketball Team who are playing in the Sweet Sixteen of the Div II National Tournament!!!  For the 2nd year in a row!!  This time they get to play at home!!  I hope the best for them!!  How sweet if they made it the Elite Eight!!  Tip-off tonight kl. 19.00 mtn time.

Tomorrow I have to wake up early for another MRI of my hand.  7.50 my MRI is scheduled.  They will just check the progress and they will decide what the next steps will be.  OH that is sooooo early.

Time for bed!  It's snowing outside yet again...I can't believe it.  GO AWAY SNOW!

SOV GOTT

PLAYOFFS HAVE STARTED IN THE DAMLIGAN!

I really wish we were there, but for now all I can do is watch.  Some pretty interesting games out there.  Play-offs are done a bit different here.  The top 4 teams will play each other twice (home and away) and the bottom 4 teams will do the same.  The winner of the bottom 4 will move up to the top 4, and the last place team in the top 4 will drop out.  Then the #1 team plays the #4 team and the #2 teams plays vs. the #3 team.  So right now, all 8 teams are playing 6 games in the first round of play-offs.  2 games in already.

Results for the top 4 teams
Tabell

08 Stockholm 1 1 0 1 2
Telge 1 1 0 2 2
Solna 2 1 1 15 2
Sundsvall 2 0 2 -18 0
08 and Telge is out on top so far after opening up with wins.  Sundsvall has started out losing both their games vs. Telge and Solna.  Solna is still a strong contender defeating Sundsvall by 16 pts but losing a close game vs. 08 (1 pt) first game.  08 and Telge face off tomorrow in a game that will determine the table leader after 2 games.  Only one will remain undefeated.

Results so for for the bottom 4

Sallén 2 2 0 16 4
Mark Basket 2 1 1 -4 2
Luleå 2 1 1 4 2
Norrköping 2 0 2 -16 0

Sallén has come out strong winning both their games vs. Norrköping and Mark.  Mark got a win in Luleå but Luleå rebounded beating Norrköping the next game.  Norrköping is battling for that first win to remain alive in the table.  We will see when they face Mark in their next contest.  And Luleå will face off against a tough Sallén team on the road.  It's an important win for Luleå if they want to keep their chances alíve to move up.  1st round of games are almost complete, 2nd round still looks exciting!!

We still are waiting for our kval playing schedule.  There is talk that we might start March 27th on the road for a 2-game weekend away-trip.  Hopefully we know soon.  It's so hard ONLY practicing right now.  Bring on the games!!

So there is some basketball talk and what's going on the league. Will keep you posted on the outcome of these games.

Spring?!

How can I get sooooooooooooooooooo excited about the sun, and then the next day it snows?!?!  KOM IGEN UMEÅ!!  I want spring weather!!  So for now I will dress like it is spring!!  Here is my new top from Gina to inspire spring!!  White = warmth = spring!!!

I can't wait for the green grass and the bright sun!!

Today I walked to Droskan for lunch, passed through town on the way.  Booked an appointment at the make-up store with Amanda next week!!  Time for a spring make-over!!  Excited for that!!  Days im really bored I post pictures of myself if you haven't noticed.  I'm sick of the snow and stuck inside.  But I know most of you miss my face!

Count how many times I say spring in this post??

CONGRATULATIONS FORT LEWIS COLLEGE on hosting regionals!!  First time ever in college history and thats a HUGE HONOR!!  First three rounds of the NCAA Div. II tournament will be held at Fort Lewis!!  GO SKYHAWKS!!  So exciting that they have done so well and have a chance now to bring home a national championship!  That would be the greatest thing ever!!  I'm so sad I'm missing all of this, but I'm there in spirit.  I would be there in a heartbeat to watch, but instead I will cheer from my computer!!  SO AWESOME!!

I plan to do a basketball post later tonight or by tomorrow on the Damligan.  Get everyone caught up on what's going on league now and how things ended up overall.  So keep a look out!  OTH and Lost on the agenda today before practice!!  OH what a life!!

MUCH LOVE TO ALL!!

SUN!

And the sun shines yet again in Umeå!!  Finally some good weather here!!  The bright sun shinning and +5 degrees!!  I can't remember the last time it was in the +'s??  Yesterday was a beautiful day, I went on a long friend with Hjort during the day...enjoying the sun.  The snow began to melt on the roads and it was great to see the re-appearance of the street.  Today was also nice, maybe not as warm as the day before...but still a good weather day.

This week is sportlov here in Umeå.  This means all the schools and kids are off this week (kind of like our springbreak back home).  A lot of families go skiing this week.  So that also means I have no work this week in the schools.  So my days have been pretty boring.  Not much going on.  I did force myself to wake up early today and go to the hospital.  They had to take some blood for my upcoming MRI next week.  I'm having another MRI done on my hand so they can map any progress and what action they want to take next.  I won't do anything to my hand until we have finished qualifications, and I'm done playing for the year.  I think that will help my hand heal faster in the long-run.  Truthfully, not looking forward to go through all this again.  But now-a-days my hand is feeling good!  Each day it gets better and better and the stiffness is gradually getting less and less.  I am lifting again which feels great.  It's a big accomplishment to be able to grab the bar and do weight-lifting exercises with it.  One month ago there was no way I could even think about doing anything like that.  My motivations are rising again, which is great during this time of preparations.  This means going to the gym and lifting btw!  Alright I'm going to leave you with a final picture of my hand....last picture I promise!

FINALLY ALL HEALED UP!!!

We have another 2 weeks or so until we play an actual game in the qualifications.  It's so annoying that we have to wait so long, but with the div. 1 teams still playing in their seasons, we have to wait and there is nothing we can do about it.  I think it's really unfair (yes im repeating myself)...I don't understand how they think it's fair for us to have to sit-out 3 weeks without a game and then be able to play against teams that have been playing through-out this month??  SO STUPID!  And we still don't know what our schedule will be??  So ridiculous and unprofessional.  Alright I'm done venting about that.  I guess we have put ourselves in this position, so what can you do.  But we will continue to practice, and hopefully be so excited and anxious to play a game, we will just be amazing when the day comes!!

OKAY about ready for practice.  That's all I got for now!  Cougartown tonight!!  Love that show!!

PEACE!

Trip to Luleå

And now back to Umeå!  Julia and I spent the last 3 wonderful days in Luleå for a change of scenary and relaxing time.  Free from basketball and a great time spent with Julia and her mother at her place, in a calm environment that I enjoyed a lot!  Here is a little summary of the last few days...

Thursday Julia and I left Umeå after my speach at the rotaryklubb and drove in some wonderful, sunny weather!  Not much traffic and nice to have the weather on our side!  We arrived in Luleå early evening, and we went to grab a bite to eat.  Kebab pizza for both Julia and myself!!  Then we met up with Kerstin, hungout for a little, then Jules and I went to see Alice and Wonderland with Johnny Depp.  Really good movie I thought, and fun to see Johnny as always in a strange role.  But it's worth seeing if you are thinking about it.  Then we retired for the evening.

Friday Julia and I eventually made our way out of bed and met Kerstin for lunch at her work.  Then it was SHOPPING!!!  I think I did the most damage, but I definetly accomplished buying some things I have been wanting!  A new watch, pair of jeans, a spring scarf, and a couple of spring type shirts!!  I can't wait for spring, so I might as well prepare for it!  After a long day of shopping, Julia and I met Kerstin at Olivers for After Work and spoiled ourselves with some amazing food buffet style.  They even had chicken wings and egg rolls!!  I was in love.  Then it was Fridaymys, watching Let's Dance!

Saturday was a little more shopping in the morning and a walk through town.  Then we drove out to Johanna's sommar stuga (summer house) outside of Luleå for her birthday fika.  It was Julia, Kerstin, myself, and almost ALL of Jo's family.  The craziest thing though, and another thing to add to my list of adventures, was I drove on an ice road over the river to get the island where her family's stuga was.  So it is true, they do make roads of ice on frozen rivers...kind of scary but fun.  Then after we cross the river, a reindeer is standing in the middle of the road just starring at us.  It begins to run away, and we notived two heards of reindeers it runs to.  Reindeer everywhere around us!  FUN!  Well we finally made it to Johanna's stuga and a great time with her family.  They grilled home-made hamburgers on the grill (which reminds me so much of summer), had a little snowmobile adventure on the river, and good conversations (mainly swedish) with good company!  HAPPY BIRTHDAY JOHANNA!

Me driving on the ice road!!  scary

Reindeer in the road!

1. Johanna's younger sister Märta...my new best friend.
2. Johanna taking us for a ride on the snowmobile!
3. Märta enjoying her ride!

So that then brings us to today, Sunday.  We left Luleå around 12.30 after a slow morning of eating breakfast and watching morning tv.  Said our goodbyes to Kerstin and drove back to Umeå on another clear, skyblue day.  When we got back to Umeå, it was straight to our practice game vs. Jämtland's div 2 team.  We won by 50 pts or so I think?  A game everyone got to play in.  So now I'm home preparing myself for a solid week of upcoming practices!  Time for bed after getting all caught up in some things.

THANKS JULIA FOR A GREAT WEEKEND!!!  And inviting me to accompany you and your mom!!  I had a great time!!

Well I hope everyone had a great weekend!!

Road Trip to Luleå!!

Tomorrow Julia and I take off for Luleå for a 4-day road trip!!!  We are gonna go stay with Julia's mamma Kerstein at her place in Luleå for a weekend away from Umeå.  A little break from basketball and time to re-fresh for our upcoming weeks of practice.  Kind of unfortunate that our games will not take place until the end of March.  So until then we have to wait and PRACTICE.  Tomorrow we are taking off for Luleå after I give a little speach at the Rotary Club meeting during lunch time.  I'm going to talk about my experiences in America playing basketball and why I have come to Umeå to continue to play.  And what goals I have for the future of basketball in Umeå!  I'm a little nervous but I think once I start talking it will be alright. :)

Nothing is really for sure planned what we will do this weekend in Luleå, but I think a lot of hanging out and relaxing.  Maybe some shopping and of course eating!!  And even a hockey match perhaps.  I'm sooooooooo excited!!

Sunday we will return to Umeå and play a friendly match against Jämtland div. 2 team who is trying to qualify into div. 1.  Then Monday it is back to normal practice schedules and preparations for our upcoming qualification games.

Today has been a busy day.  Morning practice and then I went to go get my hair done by Frida!!  And I am blonde now, probably the most blonde I have ever been.  YIPEE!!  I think Frida did a great job!  Kind of sad that I had to go to practice again right after I got my hair done, but soon I will show it off!!  YEAH for the weekend!!

So I want to wish everyone a very happy weekend and good luck in your games if you have any!!

SPA DAY!

Today was our SPA DAY!!  Day-off from basketball!!  Julia, Lisa, Pam, Gina, Jo, and myslef spent the afternoon at IKSU spa enjoying all the hot tubs, swimming pool, sun room and sauna!!  Total relaxation of the body...FINALLY!!  It felt so good and it put me in a sleeping coma.  Then later tonight, Julia accompained me to her sister's place for a massage.  It felt amazing!!  Really great!!  I'm going to sleep amazing tonight!!

Now it is time for bed.  Tomorrow we are back at practice for 2 more days, then we are off for 3-days!! Härligt!!  I am able to go to bed at normal hours now, since the olympics are over.  Sad and good both.  Sleep here I come.

I Hate Canada!

Yep I said it, I went there.  I hate Canada!  OHHHHHHH so mad the fighting Americans couldn't pull it off.  Pam and I were listening to the game on the radio...in swedish...on the way home and were really getting into it.  We were screaming and yelling and cheered so loud when USA tied the game in the final 30 seconds of the game.  The rest of the Swedes in the car sleeping were awaken by our excitement.  Then in overtime when the horn sounded on the radio, Pam and I had no idea which team it was, then we find out it's Canada...

BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Now I am watching the re-run on TV before I go to bed.  I only want to watch the final goal by the US then I am turning the TV off.  I don't want to see Crosby's ugly face while he celebrates the win.....  DANG IT!

I'm not going to talk about our game today.  I'm going to act like it never happened.  That's all I have to say about that.

Tomorrow Pam, Gina, Jo, Julia and myself are going to IKSU spa for a refreshing day.  It's time to recover and get RE-FOCUSED.  And energized for the upcoming month and qualifications.  What better way then lounging in a hot tub and sauna and relaxing the body.  I've been looking forward to this for quite some time.

The trip is now finalized and booked to Spain!!  Another two months and I will be working on my tan on the beach next to the Mediterranean Sea!!  SO looking forward to that, considering it WON'T stop snowing here in Umeå.  3 days straight now of snow-fall.  Will it ever end??

OKAY...godnatt!!

Sov gott!
