Seattle’s Sub Pop Records will offer Record Store Day releases from four artists

Record Store Day 2014 is coming up on April 19, and legendary Seattle-based indie record label Sub Pop Records is getting in on the fun this year. Sub Pop has announced via its official website that the label is planning a handful of limited-edition vinyl releases, explaining, “We went to work, trimmed the fat, and got our release list to the four most exciting, collectable, sonically pleasing, limited-edition Sub Pop Record Store Day Releases ever.”

Sub Pop is prepping Record Store Day releases from four of its artists: Mudhoney, Pissed Jeans, Chad VanGaalen and the Notwist. Here’s more information about each release:

Mudhoney, “Mudhoney on Top:  KEXP Presents Mudhoney Live on Top of the Space Needle LP.” Last year marked both Mudhoney and Sub Pop’s 25th anniversary, and to celebrated, the grunge rock group performed on the roof of Seattle’s Space Needle. Because of space limitations, only about 13 people were able to attend, but KEXP recorded and broadcast the show, which will now be available as a limited-edition vinyl LP. This set is limited to 2,700 copies.

Pissed Jeans, “The Very Best of Sub Pop 2009-2013: Live at the BBC 12” EP. This EP will offer four live-in-the-studio tracks from Pissed Jeans, all exclusive to this release. The collection is limited to 3,000 copies.

Chad VanGaalen, “I Want You Back” 7-inch single. This single features four new tracks from Chad VanGaalen, none of which appear on his upcoming album, “Shrink Dust,” out April 29 on Sub Pop. Vangaalen also created the cover art for this release, which is limited to 2,300 copies.

The Notwist, “Run Run Run” 12-inch single. “Run Run Run” appears on the Notwist’s new album, “Close to the Glass,” with the rest of this single featuring three unreleased tracks: one new track and two exclusive remixes of “Run Run Run.” This release is limited to 1,900 copies.

Record Store Day is an annual event that takes place the third Saturday in April. The goal of the holiday is to support local, independently-owned record stores and classic vinyl with exclusive releases only available at your local record shops.  For more on the event, visit Record Store Day’s official website.
