Caroline Bergvall: «Refugio»

Refugio by Caroline Bergvall was written and created during the global lockdown of 2020, with all the collaborators working remotely to create a series of immersive sound-text-film pieces of which Refugio and Heare. Both were first commissioned by Berlin International Poetry Festival and have since been reworked to become an integral part of Caroline Bergvall’s latest performance Nattsong (premiered Turner Contemporary Gallery and online, 4 November 2021), a multi-sensory stage work in which she takes a long, slow, and dense journey into language trajectories, the urgent questions of migration and collective change, and adapts the Voluspå’s ancient Nordic creation and destruction myth. 

Refugio (8mins10secs) addresses fundamental displacement, loss of compass, seeking refuge and collective as well as personal safety, through an intimate yet stirring spoken text fused to an electronic shadow-world of treated voice, crowds of protesters and treated strings, and the filmed and treated visuals of a bridge on the Thames Estuary. It creates a singular, dreamlike and mesmerising whole, both personal and political, in response to the upheavals of our time. 

Caroline Bergvall is an award-winning French-Norwegian poet and sound artist working internationally across various artforms and languages.

Leif Holmstrand: «Success Portal Schlager Without Vocals»

Leif Holmstrand er en svensk kunstner, musiker og forfatter. Han arbeider med fysiske temaer som kroppslighet og avfall, men forvrengt gjennom et visuelt og språklig filter av paranoia. Performance utgjør en viktig del av det helhetlige kunstnerskapet. Flere projekter inngår i et større, queeraktivistisk engasjement. Han er opptatt av store, i samtiden aktive, historiske, heteroseksuelle undertrykkelsesmønstre som angår oss alle, uavhengig av seksuell legning eller identitet.

Jule Sten-Knudsen

Julie Sten-Knudsen debuterte med diktsamlingen Hjem er en retning (2011). Hun har siden utgitt Atlanterhavet vokser (2013), Spor efter fugle (2017) og sist Syv lag (2021) som hun leser fra i denne videoen: «Digte om at sætte et liv i en verden, der er ved at gå under, og om at skabe nye forbindelser til naturen og til det menneskeskabte.»

Sten-Knudsens dikt har blitt oversatt til tysk, polsk, svensk og engelsk.

Chateaux: «Film som börjar minus»

Medvirkende: Beata Berggren, Gresshoppene har ingen konge, Martin Högström, P Inman, David Lespiau, Minus Miele, Jenny Tunedal og Peter Thörneby.

Chateaux er et poesiforlag basert i Stockholm.

Jörgen Gassilewski: Ballongen

«Ballongen rör sig kring existensens grund, kroppen i rummet, och förflyttar sig därifrån på olika sätt. Betydelse och berättelse bryts ner och byggs upp – plötsligt befinner vi oss på en badstrand där en glasskladdig färgglad boll studsar runt. En ballong omfattar alla sina egenskaper och flyger med sitt tomma/luftfyllda membran och skapar ett sammanhang och en berättelse när den seglar in över Ryssland. Där finns Anja, Oleg, Kim och Olga, fast på 1800-talet. Ballongen vill vara i världen och nå fram till den. Kanske är det enkelt, och sant.»

Jörgen Gassilewski debuterte som poet med diktsamlingen Du i 1987 og har siden utgitt ni diktsamlinger og to romaner, sist Ballongen fra 2021. Hans dikt har blitt karakterisert som komprimerte billedrike scenarioer, der ulike meningsnivåer og verdener stilles ved siden av og går over i hverandre. For romanen Göteborgshändelserna (2006) ble han nominert til Augustpriset og han ble tildelt Erik Lindegren-prisen i 2021.

Sohini Basak

Sohini Basak is an author and editor based in Delhi. She is the author of the poetry collection We Live in the Newness of Small Differences, which won the inaugural Beverly International Manuscript Prize in 2017. She studied literature and creative writing at the universities of Delhi, Warwick, and East Anglia, where she was awarded the Malcolm Bradbury Continuation Grant for poetry. In 2017, she received a Toto Funds the Arts prize for her poetry.

CAConrad: «Listen to the Golden Boomerang Return»

CAConrad’s poetry is about attention, about tuning in to the outside world and connecting with it. If we are to be able to create a different world order, it begins with being present in the world that exists, and with a radical, mutual division of the spaces in which our lives take place: «The spaces we fight for today must be the shared spaces, those which exemplify radical inclusivity. My worldview advocates decentralized power structures in economic and political governance, and art can lead the way to societal horizontalism.»

CAConrad is an American poet, professor, and the author of ten books of poetry and essays, including their latest book Amanda Paradise: Resurrect Extinct Vibration (2021).

CAConrad was a 2014 Lannan Fellow, a 2013 MacDowell Fellow, and a 2011 Pew Fellow, they also conduct workshops on (Soma)tic poetry and Ecopoetics. Their book While Standing in Line for Death won a 2018 Lambda Book Award.

The Book of Frank (2009) was translated into Norwegian in 2016 (Boka til Frank). While Standing in Line for Death (2017) will be published later this year (Mens vi står i kø for å dø) in a translation made by Gunnar Wærness and Martin Ingebrigtsen.

Hildegunn Dale: Det radikale håpet

Hildegunn Dale er forfattar og redaktør. Hun debuterte med diktsamlingen Solkant i 2003. Siden har hun utgitt flere bøker, sist Rapportar frå havet, hennes syvende, i 2019.

Kim Rosenfield: «Phantom Captain»

Kim Rosenfield is a poet and psychotherapist in New York City. She is the author of several books of poetry, including Good Morning–Midnight– (Roof), Tràma (Krupskaya), re:evolution (Les Figues), Lividity (Les Figues) and USO: I’ll be Seeing You (Ugly Duckling Presse). Her work has been included in the anthologies Bowery Women (YBK Publishers, Inc.), The Gurlesque (Saturnalia), Against Expression (Northwestern University Press) and I’ll Drown My Book (Les Figues). She co-founded and co-edited Object magazine (1993-2002) with poet Robert Fitterman.

Caroline Bergvall: «Heare»

Heare is a silent film-poem, which continues Bergvall’s interest in poetics of dis/place, presence and listening. Created during the first pandemic lockdown, this piece is a meditation on the space-time of the ocean, its flux and reflux, its sky and water, and the transformational finiteness of human time. It closes on 3 words by poet Paul Celan from his public speech «The Meridian”, his notions of a poetics of breath and thought for staying ever vigilant. Also inspired by Paulo Freire and what it takes to accept and commit to the immensely disruptive transformation of a society in full, inevitable and decisive transition.

Ásta Fanney Sigurðardóttir: «Scene 76: the origin of hope and strings»

Ásta Fanney Sigurðardóttir is a poet, visual artist and musician based in Reykjavík. She is widely considered one of the country’s most innovative poetry performers and has read her work worldwide. Her first chapbook, Herra Hjúkket (Mr Phew) was published in 2012 and in 2017 she was the recipient of the prestigious annual Ljóðstafur Jóns úr Vör poetry prize for a single unpublished poem. Her first collection of poetry, Eilífðarnón (Forevernoon), was published in Iceland in 2019.

She has taken part in a variety of performances blending together music, visual art and poetry, and is a member of the electro-pop trio aiYa. She has been described by The Line of Best Fit as ‘one of Iceland’s most prolific artists’.
