How to Order the Correct Vent:

To ensure proper fit be sure to order your vent in the same size of the opening or duct it will fit into or cover. We do not use overall dimensions of the existing vent in the listed sizes of our product. If you are ordering a wall return or filter grille be sure to order with the horizontal opening size listed first followed by the height (width x height).

Ex: If the hole opening is 20" wide by 10" tall, order 20x10
If the hole opening is 10" wide by 20" tall, order 10x20

How do you determine what size to order?

Our grilles, registers, and diffusers are listed by the opening size. To calculate the size you need, measure the opening or ductwork. The width and height of your opening will match the listed dimensions of our grille. Our grilles are listed with the width dimension first and the height second. Each item listed will also show the outside dimensions if this is critical to your situation.

What do the terms register, grille, and diffuser mean?

These terms are used in the industry loosely. Here is our interpretation of the terms:

  • Register- A supply vent that has a damper.
  • Grille- A return or a supply that does not have a damper.
  • Diffuser- A supply that is in the ceiling.

What is a supply?

A vent in which the air is coming out of the wall, ceiling, or floor.

What is a return?

An intake vent in which the air goes back to the air handler.

What is a damper?

A device on a vent or in ductwork that regulates the airflow. It can be either a handle on the face of the grille or a gear that is operated with a screwdriver or key.

What is the difference between wall and floor registers?

Floor registers can support the weight of a person while a wall register cannot. The damper operator on a floor register is almost flush with the floor while a wall register's handle stands out from the face of the grille.

The grilles in my house are rusting, what can I do?

You can use aluminum vents. We stock both wall, ceiling, and floor vents in white and aluminum finish.

Can I use brass in the bathroom or kitchen?

Plated registers will rust. The only product we stock suitable for this application is the cast brass model BRDT.

How can I find the grille I want?

You need to know three things:

  • A. The opening size.
  • B. Is it a supply or a return?
  • C. Is it in the wall, ceiling, or floor?

Once this information is gathered, you can use the pull down menus at the top of every web page to find the style you want.

What is a T-bar Lay-in?

It is a grille that fits into a suspended ceiling. These are most commonly found in commercial buildings but could be found in the basements of homes. They are most likely to be 24x24. To order, you need to know both the T-bar size and the duct connection that is on the back.
