BioLuxe at CVS Brings Salon Style, Home

Major chain drugstores these days have taken some of their own, and modestly-priced products, upscale. For example, CVS already has the excellent skincare line, Lumene. When I visited my local CVS store recently, I noticed an entire display of travel-sized bottles of shampoo and conditioner from BioLuxe (they were a special, $1.50 each).

Bioluxe is a hair care line, exclusive to CVS, created for people who want salon quality products and results, but without salon quality prices. The collection features products that are infused with natural ingredients and are especially good for dry, damaged, limp, frizzy or color treated hair. Salon professionals helped develop the products, and road test them.

The Bioluxe Professional Collection of Shampoos and Conditioners feature several different product types to address the needs of a variety of hair types:

Smoothing (see my review, below); Hydrating (with almond oil and seed oils, and minerals like magnesium, to add lustre to the hair cuticle, while sunscreens protect hair from UVA/UVB rays);

Color Protect (with soy protein to strengthen, nurture and protect the hair shaft), and;

Volumizing (with ginger root extract and Pro-vitamin B-5 to plump hair shaft and create volume), Polishing (with olive oil, other seed oils, and Vitamins E, D and K to protect hair and add luster to damaged hair)

I tried the Smoothing Shampoo and Conditioner. The smoothing shampoo has Pro-Vitamin B-5 , aloe extract. and wheat protein, to eliminate frizz and add body and shine, while helping to reduce damage to the hair shaft and soothe the scalp. Used in tandem, my hair felt softer, shinier, and smoother. While the products did help to reduce some frizz, when it is seriously "rain forest humid," nothing really stops the frizz from forming. In all fairness, even under the really humid conditions I tested the Bioluxe Smoothing products under, I could see that frizz was reduced a bit, and at least the "big hair" that I usually get, was more under control. Under normal circumstances, this shampoo and conditioner combo, should give you good results. I didn't try the other four shampoos and conditioners but I'm willing to go out on a limb on this and say that I'll bet they would be excellent performers, too.
The big surprise was the price: If I hadn't known the price beforehand, I would have just assumed that this was a pro-style, luxury shampoo and conditioner. It certainly performed as well (or better) than some pricier brands. The great news is that Bioluxe shampoos and conditioners are just $9.99 for 15/5 oz in flip top bottles, or $1.99 for 3 oz. travel sizes.

You can find Bioluxe products exclusively at CVS pharmacies and on the CVS Web Site
