When
visitors to the Avan Limbus Art Museum survey the scene, their gaze
wanders over carefully tended and softly rounded lawns. The character of
the landscape naturally changes depending on the season, the state of
the weather and the time of day but there is a constant impression of
greenness. Many of the people in the area move sedately from hole to
hole. The site was once the town rubbish tip but today it is a golf
course. That it is also an art museum can be difficult to realize. For
there is no physical building identifiable with the institution; and
even stranger is the fact that there is an almost total lack of visible
objects. But for all that it is a museum: a museum of the unlimited. |

Den 21 augusti
2007 invigdes ett nytt museum i Gävle, Avan Limbus Art Museum.
Instiftare och direktör är konstnären Hans Limbus Tjörneryd och som
förste intendent står Niclas Östlind (tidigare intendent på bl.a
Liljevalchs i Stockholm). ”Öppet alla dagar, inget inträde”, kan man
läsa sig till på museets informativa hemsida på internet. Men om den
konstintresserade tar sig till Gestrins Väg 7 och väntar sig att finna
en byggnad eller åtminstone någon typ av synlig institution, så kan
förvirringen bli stor. Man möts helt enkelt av ett grönområde med
tämligen välklippta gräsmattor, alldeles i utkanten av Gävle Golfklubbs
bananläggningar. Gävles lokaltidningar bevakar invigningen med fyndiga
rubriker såsom ”Tjörneryd öppnar osynligt museum” och ”Hole in one för
Tjörneryd”. ”Det var en vacker sensommardag”, berättar Niclas Östlind,
”och de församlade var alla tagna av platsens kraftfulla karaktär. Det
är en avskild plats, ett stycke medvetet utformad landskapsarkitektur,
planerad med kurvatur och den har en mycket kontemplativ karaktär. Det
känns verkligen som en utvald plats, nästan sakral.” |
